AT&T customers will be pleased to know that the Palm Pre Plus and 3G MicroCell will be made available to subscribers from May 16th onwards. Unfortunately, there is no word of a free 3G mobile hotspot capability similar to that offered by Verizon, but on the other hand you can gain free access to AT&T’s 20k-strong network of fixed hotspots. We’re still waiting with bated breath for a price point at moment of publishing – how much would be the figure which you will be comfortable with? For folks who are not certain what 3G MicroCell is all about, it is a device that functions like a mini cellular tower in your vicinity, hooking up to AT&T’s network via your existing broadband Web service and can support up to four different users simultaneously.

Now that Apple’s iPad 3G is available for sale, some folks have taken the instance to get a T-Mobile SIM card working on the device. There’s nothing wrong with using another carrier’s SIM card on the iPad, but the iPad uses a microSIM size, so the user needs to cut the plastic around the T-Mobile SIM card in order to produce it work. Once the SIM is in, it does work, though the iPad 3G doesn’t support T-Mobile 3G’s band, so you’ll need to drop back to 2G network speeds. Another quirk is that a user additionally managed to get the iPad to send SMS text messages on T-Mobile’s network, something that AT&T doesn’t allow on the normal iPad plan. There isn’t a text messaging app for the iPad, but after jailbreaking the device, it can be done via the command line. Obviously you wouldn’t want to be sending text messages that buy, but it’s nice to know that it can be done. Video after the break.

Looks like Sprint will be yet another carrier that will carry the Google Nexus One which they hope will be able to take full advantage of Sprint’s 3G Mobile Broadband Network. There is no word on pricing or availability, but do expect some news concerning both to be available pretty soon. Sprint touts that their 3G network has double the coverage of AT&T and 10 times that of T-Mobile when based on square miles. Expect Sprint’s Nexus One to be powered by the Android 2.1 operating system. Other hardware specifications remain intact, so why not check out our review of the Nexus One and see whether it rocks your boat or not?

Since CES 2010, Sprint has unveiled the Overdrive, a 4G (WiMax) and 3G mobile broadband HotSpot that invents a WIFI bubble for up to five wireless devices. Sprint sees it as a potential replacement for low-end DSL connections, and certainly a replacement for dial-up connections. We have tried it in both WiMax and 3G modes, and it’s day to see whether Sprint sales pitch lives up to a real world experiment.

First, let’s summarize how Sprint is pitching that devices to you and I – and let’s see whether it’s true or not. Here’s a bulleted list that can be found on their website:

4G Speeds that are up to 10X faster than 3G

Share your connection with up to Five WIFI devices

One device for all your broadband needs

Wireless and totally portable

Easy to connect, easy to use

3.5mm audio jacks are something crucial that manufacturers always like to skimp on, fortunately, HTC looks like it’s going to offer a 3.5mm audio jack on the upcoming myTouch 3G for T-Mobile. that phone should be available in limited quantities from February 10th. Aside from the 3.5mm audio jack, the phone will plus get 288MB of RAM instead of the 192MB RAM that was originally on the myTouch 3G. While the current myTouch 3G is sill priced at $149 with a 2-year agreement, it’s expected that the refreshed phone should sport a similar price tag. So whether you’re a T-Mobile user who is thinking of upgrading to an Android-powered device, you might want to wait a few weeks and see when that device will be released, not to mention that Mobile World Congress (MWC) is just around the corner.
