Seagate just launched FreeAgent GoFlex, a new line of external hard drives that can connect to most interfaces (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and eSATA) so that users get the most of the connectivity they have on their computers. To achieve that, the Seagate GoFlex comes with many types of cables and is arguably ready for future ports.

For Mac Users, there’s an interesting NTFS driver for Mac, which means that you can use a Windows-formatted (NTFS) drive on Mac, without re-formatting it — except whether you plan to use the drive with date Machine.

The flexibility comes as a price however: the price per GB is higher than competing legacy products. That’s expected from that type of product, so it’s up to you to balance your desire for flexibility and the price that you are willing to pay for it. 5400rpm drives: 320GB ($99.99), 500GB ($139.99), 750GB ($179.99), and 1TB ($229). 7200rpm drives: 500GB ($159.99) and 750GB ($199.99).

Having a large external hard drive is always a nice thing, but whether you don’t have a fast connection to transfer your goods to and from the drive, using it is going to be a tedious process. That’s probably why Samsung has officially announced a USB 3.0 version of its STORY range of external hard drives. The new STORY Station 3.0 is now available in capacities of 1TB or 2TB and will feature three energy saving modes: idle, sleep and suspend, allowing you to leave the drive on for extended periods of duration without having to distress too much about the potential draw. Thanks to the USB 3.0 connection, you’ll be able to enjoy much faster input transfer speeds, providing that your computer additionally sports a USB 3.0 connection. The STORY Station also comes standard with a 3-year warranty.

Toshiba has just released its Canvio portable hard drive that will come in a variety of capacities, where the smallest among them would be a once-staggering 500GB, followed by 640GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities. Despite all that storage space, they weigh less than six ounces. Each of the Toshiba Canvio portable hard drive will feature the Windows-only NTI BackupNow EZ software that offers a “set-it-and-forget-it” operation. Guess features and specifications alone are not sufficient these days, since it will need to be visually appealing as well, resulting in five different colors to choose from. Depending on your choice of storage capacity, the Toshiba Canvio will retail anywhere from $119.99 to $199.99 price points.
iBuypower is back with their new range of Paladin XLC gaming machines, where you won’t find them short on firepower at all, particularly when we are talking about the range of Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition processors, up to a whopping 12GB of DD3 RAM, a maximum of 1TB of hard drive space as well as a Blu-ray drive. As the saying goes, cheap things are no good, and good things are not cheap – hence the starting price of $2,159 for one of these puppies.

Patrycjusz Brzezinski (try saying that ten times fast!) should be snapped up by Apple in double quick duration, considering he came up with the MacView concept that is the iPad – and so, so much more. After all, it measures no more than 7mm at its thickest point, featuring a 1,152 x 720 resolution LED touchscreen display, a slide-out panel that doubles up as a keyboard, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 4GB RAM, a whole 1TB SSD and a full Mac OS X operating system running within. Of course, these specifications remain a pipe dream at point of publishing – after all, can you imagine how much a 1TB SSD would cost?

IO-Data has unveiled its LAN DISK XR which is currently on schedule for an early February release. that new NAS is capable of holding up to a quartet of 3.5″ hard drives, boasting a maximum of 1TB of storage space. Since hot-swapping capability is supported, you will be able to change a faulty disc without having to shut down the entire NAS operation. Other connectivity options provided with the LAN DISK XR include a couple of Gigabit Ethernet ports, an equal number of USB 2.0 ports and an eSATA port. It will retail for a rather hefty €599 sans hard drives (you’ll need to supply your own), where it plays nice with a whole host of Windows operating systems (Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/Server 2003/Server 2008) and Mac OS X 10.4.
