Olive 4HD, the HD Hi-Fi Music Server
November 19, 2009 · Print This Article
Olive Media Inc has released that 4HD high-end music server that aims to match the 24-bit/192Khz standard used in recording studios (for reference, CDs are encoded with 16-bit values at 44.1Khz). Assuming that you have the speaker setup that matches what the Olive 4HD can output, you would compose out how "music sounds as it is recorded".
The Olive 4HD comes with 2TB of storage, which is equivalent to 20,000 HD songs, or 6000 CDs. Users can move
details from a PC or copy tracks from a (low-res!) CD. It costs $2000, and my question is: where do I find the HD audio composition?Permalink: Olive 4HD, the HD Hi-Fi Music Server from Ubergizmo | Hot: Motorola Droid Review

Hear you go Mike… all of these sites offer downloads of MASTER FORMAT COPIES IN 24/192kps, which is currently the highest resolution offered today… But keep in mind Mike none of these sites offer mainstream music… As far as i know, no mainstream music is offered in master copies yet, simply because its mainstream and mainstream listeners dont care about sound quality. In fact they are going backwards, more and more are downloading MP3 which is even lower sound quality than CDs which are normally at 16/44kps.
This Olive 4HD is not intended for mainstream, its an audiophile product. And as you should have guessed audiophiles care about sound quality above all else.
A symbol you should look for on download sites is HDx. Its becoming the standard format for all HIGH RES MASTER COPIES. If you see this symbol on a music download site then you know they offer digital master copies.
I hope this was helpful
Cam (audiophile for life)
P.S. MIKE just to let you now, i am considering buying this product. Its great value in the audiophile market… It has a great built in DAC that offers the same level of sound quality to CD players of equal price, but at the same time it does many things a CD player can not even hope to do… And if you want to improve the sound Quality even more, you can buy and external DAC of higher quality and improve your system even more…
I personaly am thinking about buying the OLIVE 4HD and hooking it up to my BERKLY AUDIO ALPHA DAC ($5000USD) I am confident this will give me the same sound quality of CD players that cost as much as $10,000 USD But at 3 grand less.
