New Input Mechanism That Lets You Wave Your Fingers At Your Phone

Professor Masatoshi Ishikawa and Dr. Takashi Komuro of the Tokyo University have come up with a new input method that they shout “vision-based input interface”. Basically that system uses a forward facing camera to read the gestures of your fingers, allowing you to type, visit, browse pictures and some other stuff without having to physically touch the phone. The front facing camera used in that demo is a 154 FPS (frame per second) sensor, which will mean we’ll need better front-facing cameras on

our phones for that to work. With that in mind, possibly we’ll have user interfaces similar to those in the Minority Report in the near future; now that’d be really cool, wouldn’t it?
