Today, Kurt DelBene, Senior Vice President of the Office Business Productivity Group, announced the release of the public betas of Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Visio 2010, Microsoft Project 2010, Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 (for Windows Mobile 6.5), and Office Web Apps. The betas can be downloaded at: www.microsoft.com/2010.
Microsoft Office gets a new logo and the key new features include:
- Outlook Social Connector: nowadays everything has to looks like Twitter and Microsoft could not resist, users can view a person’s social networking feeds and newsletter history inside Outlook, in a small window at the lower right corner of the application. The Social Connector SDK is available today for developers to build third party social networks. LinkedIn will be the first to develop a Social Connector by early next year. Since Microsoft is providing the coding guideline with the SDK, hopefully that moment the LinkedIn add-on will not crash my Outlook!
- An improved user interface, a new customizable ribbon, the ability to perform basic photo editing inside most of the Office applications, a better notes visualization and manipulation in Excel, an improved Business Contact Manager and more…
- Now the Office Web Applications can be edit files (the files could previously only be viewed).
