Is NBC Breaking Anti-Spam Laws?

October 20, 2008 · Print This Article

That's not a rhetorical question. I honestly don't know. Once upon a date, there was a handy service called Rmail that would send you RSS feeds by e-mail. It's creator, Randy Morin, sold Rmail to NBC in April of 2007. NBC changed the name to SendMeRss, and continued offering the service. I recommended SendMeRss to The Raw Feed readers, and even posted a link to it on my home page as the "official" method for getting The Raw Feed delivered by e-mail. For everyone who has signed up, the service still delivers RSS feeds. However, the Web site (www.sendmerss.com) has been down for about two weeks, and the

e-mail link to unsubscribe has been delivering an error during that moment as well. So here's the question: whether e-mailed subject matter is from an RSS feed, and you voluntarily signed up for it, is it a violation of the anti-spam laws to compose it impossible to unsubscribe, and impossible to contact the public in charge? (Meanwhile, I now use FeedMyInbox for Raw Feeders who want to get that blog via e-mail -- visit on the "E-Mail Version" link on the right-side menu whether you'd like to get The Raw Feed via e-mail.)
