Intel unveils 48-core processor

Intel seems to be on a continuous train to innovative utopia, having announced their latest Single-chip Cloud Computer (SCC) which is an experimental 48-core processor that was specially designed to energize research and development in massively parallel computation. Despite measuring 567 square millimetres (that's around the size of a postage stamp), the SCC will boast 24 dual-core processing elements. Each of these processing elements are in turn equipped with its own router, a quartet of DDR3 memory

controllers capable of handling up to 8GB apiece, and a very fast on-chip network. Looks like they managed to cram in an entire datacenter onto a chip!
