IEEE looking to standardize rechargeable cellphone batteries

With each cellphone manufacturer having their own battery, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has the faith that everyone can play nice and agree to a standard for rechargeable cellphone batteries. The main view behind that push would be to formalize the quality and reliability of lithium ion and lithium ion polymer batteries, but chances are should that come to pass, such a standard will plus be introduced into other sectors – and we’re looking

at both notebooks and netbooks going through the same phase as well. How expanded do you think the IEEE will be able to get everyone to agree on a specific standard?
