HDMI Licensing aims to support 3D substance using their upcoming HDMI spec v1.4, and it remains to be seen whether that push will happen or not, so we'll have to wait until the consortium meets next month to add the "Top/Bottom" 3D format. While the group bemoans the lack of a mandatory 3D broadcast format, HDMI 1.4 aims to set up protocols for several 3D display technologies which will include the frame, line, or field alternative methods such as side by side display, and 2D plus depth methods. that new specification will additionally boast a committed pipe for 100Mbps Ethernet connections, featuring an Audio Return Channel that will send compressed audio via intermediary devices. Expect to see HDMI 1.4-equipped devices introduced at CES 2010 next month.
