BrainPort Implementation Allows Blinded Soldier To See Via His Tongue
We previously brought the BrainPort to your attention, but now it seems that the technology has been successfully tested on a participant. BrainPort allows the participant, a soldier who was blinded in Iraq, to see via his tongue. The system consists of a small video camera attached to a pair of sunglasses, which is connected to a device that will be placed on the user’s tongue. The system converts visual signals into electrical pulses, which are soon after sent to the user’s tongue, and the intensity
of the signals will allow the user to figure out the obstacles in his path.
