While there are already rumors that the next generation iPhone, possibly the iPhone 4G, might sport built-in RFID technology, there’s nothing stopping you from attaching a RFID device to your current iPhone, as can be seen by the latest gadget developed by Benjamin Blundell at CASA/University College London. Details are aplenty, but unfortunately it seems that in its current state, the setup can only read RFID input, but is unable to write to it yet, so it seems that you can’t use it to implement your own version of Apple’s iKey patent. Still, it’s certainly a step in the right direction. Do you think a commercial version of a RFID add-on for the iPhone will seem first, or will Apple bundle in the RFID feature into the iPhone first?
