An external keyboard for the iPhone

December 31, 2008

For a positive need, I think that "mainstream approach" keyboard for the iPhone or iPod Touch is helpful. "If you want to get a bit more typing done with a bit less cluttter, you'll no doubt be quite a bit more impressed," as Engadget wrote.

How it works?

The keyboard (it's a standard Freedom Universal Keyboard) uses the Bluetooth SPP (Serial Port) profile to talk with a Robotech Bluetooth module ( www.tigal.com/product.asp?pid=1124 ). that module is placed in a modified iphone battery sleeve and connected to the iphone serial port. The jailbroken iphone runs veency (a VNC server) and a tiny libvncclient based VNC client for keyboard event injection to whatever application you use.

Someone asked: What will that do whether I highlight something and push CTRL + C and next CTRL + V? LOL

Analyst forecasts iPhone ‘Nano’ for the first half of 2009

December 31, 2008

I think that forecast will add more fuel to rumor of an iPhone "nano". An analyst revealed that Apple will likely offer a new iPhone in the first half of 2009 that “a lower-cost version of the iPhone is coming … possibly in mid 2Q.”

Is it a iPhone "Nano" that's been discussed on various sites? “We believe that device is on its way,” said Friedman, Billings, Ramsey analyst Craig Berger.

WWDC 2008 Winners: Where Are They Now? — Squirrel

December 31, 2008

When French student Axel Peju wanted to use his Mac to track his finances and manage a budget, he couldn’t find an application to meet his needs, so he created his own. He developed Squirrel, a personal finance program for the Mac (and soon, the iPhone). It’s full of features to help you save and spend your money wisely, and won a design award at Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference that summer for Best Student App

As part of a series of posts that take a look at the where the 2008 WWDC winners are now, I caught up with Perju recently to ask him what it was like to receive the award, how he ended up at the conference, and what the future holds for the Squirrel project. Here’s what he had to say.

Macworld Town Hall Meeting

December 31, 2008

Today, IDG World Expo (the folks behind Macworld), announced that they will be holding a Town Hall Meeting at next week’s show. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 7 at 5PM PST in Moscone’s Gateway Ballroom, room 102.

All Macworld attendees are free to and encouraged to attend as IDG will be taking the feedback given there to help shape future Macworld events.

A few weeks back it was announced that Macworld 2009 would be Apple’s last. With the annual keynote given by Steve Jobs being the highlight of the event, that has put the Macworld Expo in a bit of a predicament. Why attend when Apple won’t even be there?

Paul Kent, VP and GM of Macworld, acknowledges that things will change, but is optimistic. “While there is no question that Macworld is going to evolve and change in 2010, the fundamental importance of the event remains the same: the rare ability to put exciting new Apple-related products directly into the hands of users and to inspire those users to put their products to work in new and innovative ways,” he says.

How would you change Macworld now that Apple will no longer be attending?

If you’ll be going to Macworld that year, be certain to plan your schedule with our Macworld SCHED.

Fuji EnviroMAX Digital Alkaline Battery

Fuji EnviroMAX Digital Alkaline Battery

Guess battery companies are finally waking up to the fact that disposables of yore aren't the way of the future, particularly where the environment is concerned. Since that realization, rechargeable batteries have been released but those have not really caught on with the masses since disposable batteries are much more convenient, and you don't need to bother with charging them to maximum ability once they're exhausted. Well, the Fuji EnviroMAX digital alkaline battery might not be rechargeable, but that is a disposable battery with a green conscience. After all, it does not contain any cadmium, mercury and PVC, and is packaged with recycled materials to minimize its carbon footprint. Not only that, Fuji claims the EnviroMAX digital alkaline battery is on par or exceeds most competitive alkaline batteries in its class - hopefully what they claim is true. that could be huge, assuming the price and battery performance lives up to the public's expectations. I'm currently running on Sanyo Eneloops for my devices - how about you?
